My strong desire to serve birthing women and help them achieve their goals started in 2001 when my first daughter was born by cesarean section. Throughout the birth and recovery process I knew there had to be a better way for low-risk mothers.
In 2004, I attended DONA doula training and started attending births. My husband, Josh, and I were blessed in 2005 with our second child- her birth was a personal triumph for me as it was a Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC). I started my midwifery training under traditional direction as a midwifery apprentice later that year. This training was complemented by distance learning programs available for midwives. I obtained the CPM certification in August 2011. I became a Licensed Midwife (LM) in Virginia in 2013.
My husband and I have 8 children, several of them born at home. My personal labors have ranged from 3 hours to 36 hours and all my babies have weighed between 9 and 11lbs.
I believe in a woman's strength and her ability to give birth- no matter the size of her baby, shape of her pelvis or anything else a 'well-meaning' stranger tells her.
My family resides in northern North Carolina, but to be able to better serve mothers, my midwifery practice only serves southern Virginia. I focus my practice in Galax, Wytheville, Martinsville and all areas in between. I will attend births as a doula in NC and VA as well.
I look forward to meeting you! Please contact me with any questions!
